description

The Russian Orthodox community in Frankfurt was formed from the Bad Homburg Russian Orthodox community of All Saints, which was formed in 1945 from Russian prisoners of war and so-called Eastern workers .

The St. Nicholas Church is located at the entrance to the Hausen district in the street “Am Industriehof” at the end of Ludwig-Landmann-Straße . The whitewashed building is characterized by an onion dome and the open bell cage. The church is east facing and its dimensions are about ten by twenty meters. It was completed in 1967 and consecrated in 1979 by several bishops under the direction of the archbishop and later metropolitan of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad Vitalij (Ustinov). The architecture is the Pleskau style from the 15th / 16th centuries. Modeled after the century. It was designed and built by Ernst May student and Frankfurt architect Wolf Drevermann. The interior is designed according to the regulations of the Russian Orthodox Church in the strict Novgorod style. Iconostasis , inner walls and ceiling are painted by the icon painter Adam Russak with pictures of Christ, the Mother of God, motifs from the New Testament and figures of saints.

In 2005 a portal and an exonarthex were created in front of the open bell tower, and the interior of the church was considerably expanded. A new community center designed by the Russian-French architect Sergej S. Tarasow (Paris) was built between 2005 and 2008.
