St. Vedastus Church (2008)

The St. Vedastus Church is a church in Vlamertinge , a district of the city of Ypres in the Flanders region in Belgium .

The church is named after St. Vedastus . A chapel was to be built for the first time in 857. After that, the church was destroyed several times and rebuilt each time. In 1301 a new church was built.

In 1566 the place of worship was destroyed. During the First Coalition War in 1793, the French set the church on fire because they had lost their front line, which also ran through Ypres.

At the beginning of the 20th century the tower was thoroughly renovated. The church suffered damage during the bombing of World War I and World War II. The original pre-war tower was taken into account as much as possible during the renovation work. Today's hall church was built in the neo-Gothic style .

The church has been a listed building since 1938.
