Alexandre Zacarias de Assumpção (Assunção) (born December 19, 1899 in Rio de Janeiro , † August 11, 1981 ibid) was a Brazilian major general and politician who was governor of the state of Pará in 1945 and between 1951 and 1956 .

Life

Assumpção completed an officer training in the army ( Exército Brasileiro ) of the armed forces (Forças Armadas do Brasil) at the Colégio Militar and subsequently found various posts as an officer and staff officer. It was on December 25, 1936 Lieutenant Colonel and on May 3, 1939 Colonel promoted. On July 29, 1943 he was promoted to brigadier general and was commander of the 1st brigade until 1944 and in 1944 for some time commander of the 8th military region (8th Região Militar) . As the successor to João Guilherme Lameira Bittencourt , he was from October 30, 1945 until his replacement by Manoel Maroja Neto on November 6, 1945 acting governor (intervener) of the state of Pará . On October 17, 1946, he was promoted to major general.

Assumpção, who was initially a member of the Progressive Social Party PSP (Partido Social Progressista) , replaced Abel Nunes de Figueiredo as Governador of Pará on February 20, 1951 and held the office until January 31, 1956, whereupon Edward Cattete Pinheiro succeeded him. In January 1959, he was eventually to succeed João Prisco dos Santos for the Labor Party PTB (Brazilian Labor Party) member of the Federal Senate (Senado Federal) and represented in this up to his replacement by Jarbas Passarinho on February 1, 1967, State of Pará. During his membership in the Senate, he became a member of the National Democratic Union UDN ( União Democrática Nacional ) in 1960 and then of the Social Democratic Party (Partido Social Democrático) in 1965 , before joining the National Renewal Alliance ARENA ( Aliança Renovadora Nacional ) in 1966.
