history

Portrait of St. Wolfgang in the chapel

In 994, Bishop Wolfgang von Regensburg went on a visitation trip that was to bring him to the Regensburg possessions in Austria. Coming from Passau by ship, the seriously ill bishop felt the end of his life approaching. He left the ship and was taken to the St. Othmar Chapel in Pupping, where he died on October 31 at the age of 70.

Location

The St. Wolfgang Chapel was built in Brandstatt, a district of Pupping (near Eferding ) in Upper Austria at the point on the Danube where the bishop is said to have gone ashore. It is in the immediate vicinity of the Brandstatt shipping pier. The Danube Cycle Path leads directly past her.
