The church of St. Achatius in the Zahlbachtal was built during the Napoleonic period and is the only church in Mainz from this era. It is dedicated to Saint Achatius of Armenia . Together with the parishes of St. Bernhard , St. Georg and St. Stephan (Mainz-Marienborn) it is one of four places of worship in the Zaybachtal parish group .

The building, a classical hall building with apse , in Mainz-Bretzenheim not far from the Roman stones was built by François-Auguste Cheussey in the years 1809–1810. An approximately 15 meter high bell tower is attached directly to the apse. The church has a total length of about 30 meters and a width of 13 meters.

The high altar was made around 1780. It probably comes from the then abandoned Maria-Dalheim monastery .
