The Alexius / Josef Hospital is a specialist psychiatric clinic in Neuss and is part of the St. Augustinus Group . Together with the outpatient center and the connected day clinics, the house forms the center for mental health.
history
From the middle of the 19th century, the Neuss Augustinian women cared for mentally ill women and finally founded the first nursing home for women in Neuss in 1858 under the direction of mother Johanna Etienne , which later became the St. Josef Hospital.
With the St. Alexius Hospital , the Alexian Brothers in Neuss built their own house for mentally ill men in 1868. At that time, both facilities were located in front of the city walls of Neuss and were only separated from each other by a street.
The lack of offspring from the order meant that the Augustinian nuns from Neuss founded the “Cor unum - Preservation of Heritage” foundation in 2002 and converted the numerous institutions into limited liability companies , as they could no longer manage the houses with their own staff.
In June 2004 the St. Augustinus Clinics gGmbH was founded , which emerged from the “Cor unum” foundation of the Augustinian women together with the Neuss Province of the Brothers of St. Alexius.
Initially, the psychiatric specialist clinics St. Alexius and St. Josef were run as independent houses. In 2008 the groundbreaking ceremony for a common house took place.
The main building of the St. Josef Hospital was demolished. An old building in neo -Gothic style and a chapel from the 1950s were supplemented by new buildings. The wings form an atrium.
The center for mental health, the Alexius / Josef Hospital, was inaugurated in 2012 and offers modern and comprehensive psychiatry for the Rhine district of Neuss.
Facility
The house has 355 places in one and two-bed rooms. 546 people are employed. Every year around 6000 inpatients and 20,000 outpatients are treated at the Alexius / Josef Hospital .
The hospital is run by the St. Augustine Group. The hospital is managed by Martin Köhne as managing director and medical director.
Departments
- General Psychiatry
In the General Psychiatry Department , people with anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorders and psychoses are treated and supported in coping with crisis situations. The work takes place on acute wards for treatment in acute crises, if necessary also in a protected setting. Individually adapted psychotherapy is offered on two post-acute wards. Certified treatment concepts are used to work on the disease at the specialized wards for borderline and trauma patients.
- Psychosomatics
In the St. Alexius / Josef Hospital, an interdisciplinary team of specialists in psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy , specialists in psychiatry and psychotherapy and other areas treats . The St. Anna day clinic offers semi-inpatient treatment for people with psychosomatic illnesses, also in the attached outpatient department.
- Gerontopsychiatry
The geriatric psychiatry deals with mental illness of older people and is seen as a separate part of the field of psychiatry. If a mental disorder is in the foreground in an elderly person and outpatient treatment is not sufficient, inpatient gerontopsychiatric treatment should take place in an open or protected area.
- Addiction
For the inpatient offer, there are three stations available for the treatment of substance-related addiction disorders, whereby mental disorders, family and social problems are individually taken into account in the treatment planning.
- Day clinics
Seven day clinics in Neuss, Grevenbroich , Korschenbroich , Dormagen and Meerbusch enable treatment with short distances for the sick. If partial inpatient treatment is sufficient, i.e. the patient spends the night in the familiar environment, treatment close to home can be guaranteed with the decentralized facilities. Connected outpatient clinics also enable purely outpatient therapy.
- Outpatient offers
In addition to the general psychiatric outpatient clinic, the outpatient center offers a range of specialized services such as native-speaking consultation hours for migrants, a trauma outpatient clinic, children and adolescents clinic and a consultation hour for competitive athletes.
Awards
According to Focus magazine, the house has been one of the "Top Clinics in Germany" since 2011.
