Coop City St. Annahof

The St. Annahof is a listed department store in the city of Zurich . It is located at Bahnhofstrasse 57, on the former site of the St. Anna Chapel on St. Annagasse.

The department store was built on behalf of the Zurich Food Association , founded in 1878 (since 1890 in the Association of Swiss Consumer Cooperatives , from which the Coop Group emerged ). The building was built between 1912 and 1914 according to plans by the Pfister brothers . In terms of style, it is a Baroque- style Art Nouveau building (alternatively, the term Heimatstil Baroque is also used), with a symmetrical street facade.

Detail on Füsslistrasse

The main facade of the six-storey building complex faces Füsslistrasse and is broken in the middle with a passage to the inner courtyard. One wing of the building adjoins Bahnhofstrasse and the other wing against St. Annagasse. During the renovation between 1978 and 1981, almost all of the original interior was lost. Due to the representative exterior facade, the house was placed under protection. The sculptures on the facade were done by Otto Münch , Hans Markwalder , Wilhelm Schwerzmann and Otto Kappeler .

The building is still operated in its original function as a department store under the name Coop City St. Annahof .
