Hans Markwalder

Hans Markwalder (born June 11, 1882 in Weiningen , † November 8, 1951 in Zurich ) was a Swiss sculptor , sculptor and etcher .

life and work

A sculpture by Hans Markwalder stands on the grounds of the Gubel school building in Zurich Oerlikon.  The boys' group is dated 1936.

Markwalder learned from Adolf von Hildebrand in Munich and created numerous works in the canton of Zurich and in eastern Switzerland .

In the city of Zurich you can see his works on the facade of St. Annahof , on the district building and on the Kaufleuten guild house. Markwalder created the two sphinxes for the Sihlfeld D crematorium and various fountain sculptures.
