History and architecture

The predecessor church, which has since been demolished, probably originated in parts from the 13th century, it was located directly on today's Bundesstrasse 55. In order to raise the money for a new church, a collective association was founded in 1919, members were the villages in the area. A larger plot of land at the intersection of two main streets was selected for the new building. The building was constructed from 1965 to 1966 based on designs by the architect Karl Heinz Vedder. The foundation stone was laid in September 1965 and the church was consecrated on February 5, 1967 by Lorenz Cardinal Jaeger . The outer walls are white and the roof surfaces are dark. The slim tower stands on a square floor plan. The walls of the tower are divided by narrow sound windows that continue as dormers in the helmet . An atrium , which is surrounded by a covered corridor, forms the transition between the site and the interior. The interior stands over a trapezoid whose sharp corners are cut off. The walls on the two short sides are equipped with concrete glazing by Benno Lippsmeier over the entire height. The baptismal font is housed under a curved gallery . The altar zone is semicircular and protrudes. The four-segment seating is aligned with the altar area. The furnishings in the chancel, made of black material, were made to designs by the architect Vedder; it stands out from the gray floor and the white walls. Other features include the bells, which were consecrated in March 1968, and a pietà that stands in the adoration chapel.
