The Catholic St. Barbara Church in Strzelce Opolskie (Groß Strehlitz) is a scrap wood church from the 15th or 16th century. There is a Catholic cemetery around the church in the west of the city. The church, consecrated to St. Barbara , was built outside the old town, at the junction to the places Krappitz and Oppeln. It belongs to the parish of the St. Laurentius Church .
history
The Barbarakirche was first mentioned in a document in 1505. This mention of the little church h. Barbara in front of the Opole gate can be found in a document from Duke Johann von Opole . In the 17th century the church fell into disrepair. In 1683 Anna Baschin (Bassa) began the restoration of the church, which she had promised her husband Georg Baschin, who had died in 1679. The work was planned and managed by the former mayor of Groß Strehlitz, Florian Weiser, and carried out by Johannes Brixi. The church was completed in 1690. In 1871 the inscriptions Weiser , Brixi and the year 1690 are said to have reminded of this.
In 1838 the Catholic cemeteries at the St. Laurentius Church and the Kreuzkirche were closed. Thereupon the cemetery at the Barbarakirche was extended according to the plans of the Groß Strehlitzer building inspector Krüger.
architecture
The small church consists of a roughly quarter-shaped nave and a choir, which is closed on three sides to form a hexagon, and it has flight roofs. The choir and the nave are separated inside by a triumphal beam. The year 1684 can be found on the cover plate of the west door. Above the nave there is a baroque turret as a roof turret. The construction of the tower was financed in 1727 by Pastor Ernst Joachim von Strachwitz.
The interior of the church is decorated in the Renaissance and Baroque styles .
