The Laurentiuskirche in Strzelce Opolskie (Groß Strehlitz) in Upper Silesia is the city's Roman Catholic parish church . It was built in the early 20th century on the basis of its previous building in the neo-baroque style.

history

The new Laurentiuskirche was built during the tenure of pastor Maximilian Ganczarski on the site of the old baroque Laurentiuskirche that was demolished in 1903 . The foundation stone was laid on August 7, 1904, and construction was completed in 1907. Oskar Hossfeld provided the plans and Georg Güldenpfennig was in charge of construction. On June 3, 1907, the church was consecrated by Prince-Bishop Cardinal Georg von Kopp (Breslau).

architecture

The Laurentiuskirche is a completely neo-baroque building. It is built in solid construction and completely plastered. It has a single bell tower with an onion dome . The furnishings are also neo-baroque and partly mannerist . It also contains numerous pieces of equipment from the previous Baroque building, such as the main altar from 1712 or the two Mannerist side altars from the 17th century. The main altar is the work of the Wroclaw artist Johann Christoph Königer.

Next to the church there is a free-standing bell tower ( defense tower ) and a memorial with a crucifixion group. Adjacent is also the rectory , which was completed in 1913 .
