St. Barnabas Anglican Chapel is a small Anglican church in Saint George Basseterre in St. Kitts and Nevis .

history

The church was built on the land of a former hospital, which the governor Philippe Lonvillier De Poincy had built in 1639. Around 1700 the hospital was destroyed in the course of the change of ownership in St. Kitts. Huguenots , who had now settled on the island, asked to be allowed to build a church on the site. When the French influence ended in 1726 , the Huguenots asked again to keep the church, which they were allowed to do. When the Huguenot community died out, the Anglican Church took over the building. Church services are still held regularly.

architecture

The church stands on Malone Avenue and consists of a simple hall made of stone walls with three windows on each side and a rectangular extension to the east. The roof is a simple gable roof .
