The St. Cyriakus Church is the Protestant church in Bufleben , part of the municipality Nessetal , in the district of Gotha in Thuringia . It has been part of the Evangelical Lutheran Parish Emmaus Goldbach-Wangenheim in the Gotha parish of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany since 2013 .

history

According to an inscription on the church, it was built in 1412. On August 14, 1732, the repair of the ailing tower roof began. In 1733 lightning struck the church chancel roof, but did not cause any major damage. In 1752 the church roof was repaired and the inside of the church was freshly whitewashed after the installation of a gallery and some new windows. In 1776 the church tower was repaired again. At the same time, the church received a new belfry and a new church door next to the parish office.

In the years 1814 to 1816 a new organ was placed on the east side above the altar. The mayor Lencer gave the church a gold-plated weather vane and a gold-plated tower button for the church tower in 1863 . In 1875, locksmith Kühn from Graefenroda erected a new tower clock for 700 marks.

On July 18, 1898, a major repair of the church began. Most of the rafters were rotten, the northern wall was dilapidated and was completely replaced, as a memorial plaque commemorates. Two thirds of the roof and the church canopy were renewed, the floors and women's chairs were redesigned, and the galleries were given new columns and new cladding. The organ was also rebuilt. The inauguration took place after an interior painting on May 28, 1899. The widow of the former pastor Christian Thon gave a gold-plated chandelier and a silver baptismal bowl for renovation. During the renovation, an oil painting with the year 1516 was found in the cladding of the gallery, which depicts the Holy Family.

On June 15, 1910, lightning struck the church tower and damaged the tower button, which was removed, repaired and solemnly replaced on July 17, 1910. In 1910 the gallery columns were replaced again due to heavy dry rot infestation .

In May 1932 the tower button had to be repaired again. In 1934 the organ front , which consisted of tin pipes and was melted down during the First World War, was replaced by zinc pipes.

Bells

1645 was the year of casting of the small bell in the church tower, the larger one was from 1670, a third hung on the top of the tower as a pointer bell. They were probably melted down for armaments purposes during the First World War. On May 12, 1932, two new bells by the bell founder Ulrich from Apolda with a total weight of 30 quintals were inaugurated. The smaller one was consecrated to the fallen sons of the village and donated by the former mayor Robert Schneegass in memory of his fallen son. Generous donors paid the bigger bell. On February 18, 1942, these bells were melted down again. A farewell party was banned by the authorities. The pastor recommended a material for making new bells that was not suitable for warfare.

graveyard

On July 20, 1879, the old cemetery around the church was closed due to lack of space. The inauguration of the new cemetery on Tonnaer Strasse took place on the same day.
