St. Elisabeth (Buckenberg)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

St. Elisabeth in Buckenberg , a district of Pforzheim in Baden-Württemberg , is a Catholic parish church that was built in 1957.

history

The numerically small number of Catholics in Buckenberg initially belonged to the small Pforzheim municipality, which inaugurated the Church of St. Franziskus in 1891 . As the community grew rapidly in the course of industrialization, the parish of the Herz-Jesu-Kirche was established in 1925 for Catholics living south of the Enz . At that time, there were 320 believers from Buckenberg in the Herz-Jesu parish. Buckenberg received a Catholic chapel and a Catholic kindergarten in 1926. After the Second World War, the number of Catholics rose sharply due to the influx of displaced people, so that the old chapel was no longer sufficient and the building of a separate church was necessary. In 1957, the St. Elisabeth Church was built next to the existing buildings. A daycare center was initially set up in the basement until 1974 . In 1964 Buckenberg became a parish curate and in 1970 with 3000 believers it became its own parish . By the 1990s the number of parishioners rose to over 6,000.
