St. Eugenius

St. Eugenius is a Catholic church in the Mittelfeld district of Hanover (Am Mittelfelde 133). It was based on plans by 1955/56 Otto Hodler (Hannover) as a brick - church hall built and provided with a free-standing bell tower in 1960/61.

The patronage of St. Pope Eugenius received the church in honor of the then reigning Pope Pius XII. (Eugenio Pacelli). Its foundation stone was laid on July 24, 1955, and by the summer of 1956, Holy Masses and First Communion celebrations were held in the not yet completed church. On September 16, 1956, the Church of was Capitular Wilhelm Offenstein benediziert because Bishop Joseph Godehard making was short dead before. In 1960 the church got its organ , built by Gebrüder Hillebrand Orgelbau . After a major renovation, the Church on November 11, 1972 by Bishop Heinrich Pachowiak ordained .

As early as 1952/53, a parish vicarie was set up in the Mittelfeld district ; its services initially took place in the rooms of the Catholic kindergarten. On April 1, 1956, the independent parish (Kuratiegemeinde) of St. Eugenius was established, and on April 1, 1963 it was elevated to a parish. In the course of the reduction and concentration process in the Diocese of Hildesheim , the parish of St. Eugenius was attached to the neighboring parish of St. Bernward , from which it had once emerged, on September 1, 2010 .

The history of the parish is closely linked to that of the Mittelfeld district. A rapid increase in the number of members due to industrial settlements and the influx of Catholic Eichsfelders and expellees , especially from Silesia, was followed by a continuous decline. A major challenge is the integration of Catholics with other mother tongues and the increasing aging population .
