In earlier times the place belonged to the municipality of Freudenburg and was first mentioned in 1440 in the Scheffenweise von Freudenburg. Today the district belongs to the parish of St. Quiriacus and Auctor , Taben-Rodt. The church was built, as the year above the door arch suggests, in 1730. Although the residents had their own church, they did not have their own cemetery. Funerals and weddings first took place in Kastel-Staadt around 1700 , but then moved to Freudenburg.

The altar built into the choir wall is an altar retable with a brick canteen. The retable was made of a reddish stone and was built into the branch church in 1739. There is much to suggest that it was previously in a different location. The formal language of the retable also suggests that the altar is older than 1730/1739. Its origin is believed to be around 1650.

After the damage of the Second World War , extensive repair work was necessary, which was not completed until 1960. Further renovations took place in 1979 and 2014 in order to largely preserve the original condition of the building.

building

The core of the chapel is a late Gothic building. The simple plastered structure is vaulted inside with cross ribs. The two ornate keystones show a Christ monogram "IHS" and a flower. Inside there is a cross-ribbed vaulted room with intermediate girders. The cross ribs are placed on pillars. The width of the interior of the chapel is on the north side (entrance) 4.24 m, the height 3.92 m. The length of the interior measures 5.93 m. The altar stands on a surface raised by 0.29 m, which can be reached via two steps. The distance between the altarpiece and the leading edge of the steps is only 0.84 m and therefore offers little room for movement for the clergy celebrating with their backs to the congregation.

For the branch church, which was badly damaged after the Second World War, the parish was given a new bell in December 1952. This bronze bell with the tone “d”, manufactured by the Mabilon & Co. bell foundry in Saarburg, has a diameter of 35 cm and a weight of 25 kg. In addition to the inscription “Mater dolorosa, thank you”, the coat bears a picture of the “Mother of Sorrows” and a cross.

The two lead-glazed arched windows in the side walls were designed by the artist E. Kraemer, Trier and show on the one hand the "tools of suffering" and on the other hand the "victorious Lamb of God". The windows were donated by Hammer citizens and installed in 1962.

In the north-north-west facing entrance there is a Gothic column portal (width: 1.17 m, height: 1.79 m) with a regular round arch and engraved with the year 1730. The square columns on both sides are positioned slightly offset towards the center under the round arch. A wooden square roof turret with a bell rises above the entrance .
