St. Francis (Dreislar)
The Roman Catholic Church of St. Franziskus is a listed church building in Dreislar , a district of Medebach in the Hochsauerlandkreis , North Rhine-Westphalia .
History and architecture
Around 1650 a church was built in Dreislar for the first time. It was dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi . Since the chapel was near the Ölfe brook , water damage occurred. Thereupon, in 1864, the decision was made to build today's neo-Gothic quarry stone church . In 1931/32 the church was expanded to include a transept and a choir. In 2013 the church was renovated due to its poor condition.
The stigmatization of St. Francis can be seen on the high altar. A Gothic Elizabeth figure and the barite cross from the local mine are in the church. St. Sebastian , who is also the patron of Dreislar, can be seen on a church window . The patron saint Barbara can be seen in another window .
A small organ can be seen on the left in front of the altar.
