History and architecture

The origin of the Hanstedter Feldsteinkirche is in the year 980 AD, when the nave was built. This year can be found on the ceiling inside the church. It has massive field stone masonry with arched windows. The nave has a flat ceiling and the Gothic choir room has a vault.

Bell tower

In place of an old defense tower, a new tower was built in 1887. It contains a bell from 1465 and 1844.

architecture

In the choir there is a winged altar from the 15th century, mostly decorated with gold. A picture of the Lord's Supper hangs on the side wall of the church, which had been attached since the Reformation . The altar steps are surrounded by a rare altar gallery and the windows in the choir show pictures of the birth, baptism, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. The pulpit is from 1702, a beautiful baroque carving with Christ, the 4 evangelists as well as Peter and Paul. The organ was made by the Emil Hammer Orgelbau workshop (1887/1970).

The four-kilometer-long resurrection path begins at the church with pictures by artist Werner Steinbrecher of 13 biblical Easter stories. The path ends at the Ebstorf monastery church.
