St. George

St. Georg is a small church on Gampenstraße between Lana and Völlan in South Tyrol .

history

St. Georg and St. Margareth are one of the oldest churches in Lana. During excavations, the remains of a wooden church built between the 8th and 9th centuries were discovered, which was replaced by a three-apse church built in stone . The church was first mentioned in a document in 1265. The current church building dates from the 13th to 14th centuries and has been rebuilt several times, so there are traces of the Baroque on it . The first renovation took place in 1967 and another in 1986 through a citizens' initiative .

Furnishing

On the west side of the church there are remains of frescoes from the end of the 14th century depicting St. George, the crucifixion, as well as St. Show Christophorus.
