Paul Vogt (art historian)

Paul Vogt (born May 29, 1926 in Essen - Holsterhausen ; † October 1, 2017 in Münster ) was a German art historian .

Vogt studied art history, archeology and prehistory in Göttingen and received his doctorate in 1950 under Heinz Rudolf Rosemann (1900–1977) with a dissertation on the landscape in Dutch printmaking of the 16th century . He had been curator since 1954 and, as Heinz Köhn's successor, director at the Museum Folkwang in Essen from 1963 to 1988 . In 1977 he was offered a position at the University of Duisburg-Essen .

He was an honorary member of the Folkwang Museum Association and since 1984 a member of the Ruhr Cultural Foundation . He was awarded the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
