Ernst Guldan

Ernst Guldan (born December 30, 1927 , † April 5, 1997 ) was a German art historian , university professor and library manager.

Life

Guldan left his hometown Prague after the end of World War II . He studied art history at the University of Göttingen and received his doctorate in 1954 under Heinz Rudolf Rosemann on a topic of baroque architecture. From 1954 to 1956 Guldan had a scholarship from the State of Lower Saxony at the Central Institute for Art History in Munich . After long years in southern Germany, Austria and Italy devoted to research and teaching, he worked from 1977 to 1992 as library director at the Bibliotheca Hertziana in Rome .

At Guldan's own request, he was buried in the family grave in the Olschaner cemetery in Prague.
