Art history journal

The journal for art history ( ZfK ) is a specialist journal for art history . It was founded in Berlin in 1932 and has been published by Deutsches Kunstverlag Berlin / Munich since the 12th year (1949) .

The journal for art history followed in 1932 the repertory for art history , the last volume of which was published in 1931. The repertory , for its part, was founded in 1876 as the successor to the yearbooks for art history that were published from 1868 to 1873. The journal for art history is open to all eras, objects and methodological approaches. The scientific papers reviewed by independent reviewers are published in German, English, French or Italian. It is a particular concern of the magazine to address the differentiated subject of art history in its entire breadth and to intensify the dialogue across the boundaries of different sub-areas of the subject.

The journal for art history works on the principle of the double blind peer review . This does not apply to reviews or the debate format introduced in 2015. Four issues appear per year.

The magazine was initially published by Wilhelm Waetzoldt and Ernst Gall , later continued by Margarete Kühn , Georg Kauffmann and Reiner Haussherr as well as Andreas Beyer , Alexander Markschies and Andreas Tönnesmann . At the turn of the year 2014/15, Beate Fricke , Ursula Frohne , Johannes Grave and Michael F. Zimmermann took over the editing. In September 2019, the editors announced that, due to differences with the publisher about the publication of the journal in Open Access , they would be stepping down from their duties in December 2019 and instead start a new journal with the title 21: Inquiries into Art, History, and the Visual - Contributions to establish art history and visual culture . During the ongoing discussions with new publishers, the Zeitschrift für Kunstgeschichte has been continued as editor since January 2020 by Gerrit Walczak .
