Chapel of St. George

The Catholic Chapel of St. Georg is a listed church building in Westereiden , a district of Rüthen in the Soest district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

According to the Oelinghausen monastery , there was a chapel in Westereiden well before 1597 , the patron saint of which was St. George. The building stood on Ruiters Hof (Hues Rüther). The foundation stone of the current chapel was laid in 1882 and was consecrated in 1885. The building was extensively renovated in 2006. The interior is kept bright. Noteworthy are various figures of saints such as those of St. George, the Holy Family and a Pietà . A colorful way of the cross hangs on the side walls . In 1938, a memorial was erected next to the chapel for those who died in the First World War.
