  4. "This coat of arms reminds in its colors and figures of the historical past and affiliation of the village: The black Cologne cross indicates that Westereiden historically - ecclesiastically and politically - belonged to the Duchy of Westphalia and thus to the Archbishopric of Cologne and beyond A Cologne fiefdom was a particular property. The residents of this area are still called the 'Kölsken' by their eastern neighbors. The red eagle indicates the rule of the Counts of Rietberg-Kaunitz, the most important landlords in Westereiden. The golden field and the three diamonds standing on top of each other are reminiscent of the Knights of Lürwald, who also owned large estates in Westereiden. Finally, the red color of the diamonds shows that Westereiden belongs to the "Rüthener Quartier". The historical references show that Westereiden's colors are black and red -Gold 'to match the colors of our fatherland.
