history
Kellinghausen was probably founded in the 9th century, which can be deduced from the ending -hausen . The place is first mentioned in a document in 1231 as "Kellinchusen". The owner of the place in the Middle Ages was the knight of Langenstrasse. In 1503 Conrad von Langenstradt sold his farms in Kellinghausen to the mayors, the council and the city of Rüthen . Even before the Thirty Years' War, Kellinghausen is said to have owned a chapel and a school. At least the place was bigger at that time than it is today, as traces of houses can still be found in the farmland. In 1716 the Catholic St. Magdalene Chapel is mentioned. In 1905 it was replaced by a new building. The municipality of Kellinghausen has been part of the Altenrüthen district in the Lippstadt district since the Prussian era . On January 1, 1975, it was incorporated into the city of Rüthen.
