Hemmern is 3 kilometers north of Rüthen. The resident population of the village was 170 in 2008 with an area of 3.2 km². This resulted in a population density of 53.1 inhabitants / km².
history
Hemmern was founded in 1146 under the name Hethemere , which means something like "village on the Streiborn". In 1816, Hemmern became part of the new Lippstadt district . The municipality of Hemmern came to the office of Altenrüthen. On January 1, 1975, it was dissolved and incorporated into the city of Rüthen.

The Hemmern shooting club was founded in 1859. Today it has 130 members. The shooting festival, which is always well attended, takes place every two years. The centenary of the flag took place in 2005. Since the old flag had already suffered a lot after several restorations, a new flag was purchased for the occasion.
Festivals
One attraction is the three-day shooting festival, which is celebrated every two years. In the years without a shooting festival, there is a sports festival in Hemmern, which is organized by the Hemmeraner Spiel- und Sportgemeinschaft (SSG). Many football clubs from the surrounding areas come together to take part in a tournament.
