history
Oestereiden is first mentioned in 1170. The name of Oestereiden and the neighboring Westereiden goes back to Eden or Eyden . This could mean altitude or heather . Oestereiden and Westereiden stand for the eastern and western parts of the Eden settlement. Since the Middle Ages , Oestereiden was part of the Gografschaft or Gogericht Rüthen in the Electoral Cologne Duchy of Westphalia . This becomes part of Hessen-Darmstadt in 1802 and from 1807 Oestereiden is assigned to the new Rüthen office. In 1811 the mayor district of Oestereiden was created as the lowest administrative unit , to which Westereiden also belongs. In 1815 Oestereiden became part of the Kingdom of Prussia and in 1816 of the Lippstadt district . The municipality of Oestereiden was established in 1827/28 after the dissolution of the district of Oestereiden. This now belongs to the mayor's office in Anröchte , which was renamed to Amt Anröchte in 1833. In 1845 the municipality of Oestereiden moved to the Altenrüthen office , which was called the Rüthen office from 1937. On January 1, 1975 it was incorporated into the city of Rüthen.

coat of arms
Blazon : "Split between red and gold, on the right a golden emeritus staff, on the left a red sword pointing upwards." | |
Justification of the coat of arms: The coat of arms is in the colors of the Counts of Riedberg, who owned the manor in Oestereiden until 1802. The hermit staff shown heraldically on the right is an attribute of St. Antonius Eremita , the church patron of the Oestereiden church. The sword on the heraldic left side of the shield symbolizes the free-chair jurisdiction in Oestereiden. |
