Ulrich Grun

Ulrich Grun (born February 23, 1937 in Brilon ; † March 4, 2017 in Rüthen ), also Grun-Ditz in publications, was a German (art) historian, pedagogue and local researcher.

Life

After graduating from high school Petrinum in Brilon , Grun studied history, art history and German at the universities of Cologne , Bonn and Würzburg .

In addition to his full-time teaching activities at the Friedrich-Spee-Gymnasium Rüthen, he researched above all the history and art history of Westphalia (see publications); Initially in particular in cooperation and in professional exchange with Eberhard Henneböle , whose collection of legends he was finally able to complete, later also in cooperation or in exchange with Peter Kracht , Philipp R. Hömberg , Hans-Joachim Behr and Wilfried Reininghaus .

The correct evidence of the place of birth of Franz Wilhelm Rabaliatti and the first guild regulations for stonemasons and masons in the Duchy of Westphalia can be traced back to Grun's archival research . the same applies to the first documentary mention of Kneblinghausen and the discovery of the oldest depictions of Rüthen and Kneblinghausen.

Grün's pedagogical endeavors were particularly focused on conveying historical connections to broader sections of the population: as chairman of the Rüthen cultural ring , he curated around sixteen exhibitions on (art) historical topics - among others on Eduard Bufé , Friedrich-Adolf Sauer and Eberhard Henneböle - and founded 1978 the local history working group and initiated one of the first structured city guide training courses in the Soest district . As home curator and scientific advisor to municipal institutions, especially in the Rüthen area, he was also responsible for the historical justification and allocation of street names and city coats of arms as well as for the public signage and integration of monuments into the respective townscape, such as the construction of the Rüthen witch tower as a museum and memorial site in cooperation with the NRW Foundation and Wilfried Stichmann .

In addition, Grun sometimes designed or restored interior furnishings, such as B. doors, banisters, carpets and other things, always looking for and taking into account the reference to historical contexts.
