Ferdinand Koch

Ferdinand Koch (born May 29, 1927 in Coesfeld  , † August 22, 1990 in Rüthen ) was a German tenor and music teacher. He is the father of the baritone Julian Koch .

Life

After graduating from high school and moving in as a sixteen-year-old flak helper in the last years of the war, he studied singing and geography in Münster and Cologne . At the same time and afterwards he worked as a solo tenor throughout Europe in performances, radio and recordings. In addition to recordings of various Bach - Cantatas with Max Thurn and Hans Heintze gained particular recordings, conducted by Jascha Horenstein ( Franz Liszt : Faust Symphony ) and Günter Wand ( Ludwig van Beethoven : Symphony No. 9 ) greater awareness and were later re-released several times. On the latter recording, Koch formed a quartet of soloists with Theresa Stich-Randall (soprano), Lore Fischer (alto) and Rudolf Watzke (bass).

As a music teacher he worked in particular at the Friedrich-Spee-Gymnasium Rüthen and was largely responsible for the development of the music branch, which is still strong today. On October 4th, 1963 he founded the Rüthen Chamber Choir, which he led to national fame in the following years.
