Jodocus mat clod
Jodocus Mattenklodt (* in the 17th century in Geseke ; † 1698 ) was a German historian and Augustinian priest .
Life
Mattenklodt, grandson of the judge Hermann Mattenklodt, came from a Gesek family of dignitaries and is considered the oldest historian in the city. As a young man he entered the Paderborn monastery in Böddeken . The Augustinian canon wrote down in ten chapters what he had found in older news about Geseke and other Westphalian cities such as Paderborn, Rüthen , Soest and Brilon , but he also recorded events of his lifetime as a chronicler. His history of the city of Geseke remained unfinished because he was recalled from his work to an important pastoral task in Unna .
Mattenklodt wrote in Latin, which he apparently valued very much. Accordingly, he adorned his historical and chronic texts with many Latin poems and epigrams . The historian tried to disguise the authorship of his poetry, for example by pretending to have Hadrianus Junius as the author.
