St. Helena status
The St. Helenian status ( English St. Helenian status ) is the legal membership of a natural person to the British overseas territory St. Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha . It is comparable to a nationality . However, all persons with this status are British citizens under the British Overseas Territories Act 2002 .
The legal basis for the status is the Immigration Ordinance No. 8 from 2011.
Acquisition
St. Helenian status can be obtained in the following ways:

by birth:
- Islanders or
- Residents who were born on or after October 18, 1999 in St. Helena and whose father or mother had the status at the time of birth

by descent:
- People who were born on or after October 18, 1999 and whose father or mother had the status at the time of birth
- by birth or
- by descent and residing on the island or
- by descent, provided the mother or father had this status by birth
- People who were born on or after October 18, 1999 and whose father or mother had the status at the time of birth
- by request:
- provided that the person is of legal age and the authority approves the application, referring to Annex II
- by review:
- provided that a person who believes he has the status applies for recognition
loss
The status is lost if
- the person does not live in St. Helena for 10 years after the status certificate has been issued, or
- the status was obtained through fraud.
