The St. Hildegardis retirement home chapel on Ricarda-Huch-Straße in Düsseldorf-Garath was built from 1962 to 1970 according to plans by Gottfried Böhm . It is an example of the use of exposed concrete as the primary building material. So it is “an external construction ... angular concrete structure supported by a heavy support”. A bell bay breaks through the contour of the concrete structure. The relationship with the much larger Neviges pilgrimage cathedral that was built at the same time is unmistakable . The parish church of St. Matthew, also designed by Gottfried Böhm, belongs to the ensemble .
