Exterior of the church

The St. Jakobus chapel is located just outside the village of Reichenbach near Oberstdorf .

history

The small baroque chapel in Reichenbach near Oberstdorf was built in 1540 using parts of a previous Gothic building. This can be proven by means of a master stonemason's mark in the Gothic roof structure, and a bell also dates from this period. It was rebuilt for the first time in 1764, and renovations took place in 1952–53 and 1998–2007.

inner space

It is worth mentioning the late Gothic, gilded main altar from 1495, which had previously stood in the Marienkapelle in Schöllang . The holy figures represent, from left to right: Crescentia , John the Baptist , Catherine of Alexandria (recognizable by the sword), Mother of God with Child Jesus, Elisabeth of Thuringia (the object in the shape of a football is probably a bread), Sebastian and Vitus .

The former back wall of this altar hangs today on the inner south wall. The panel painting is given to Hans Striegel the Elder. J. or his workshop and shows the death of Mary.

The figure of the church patron can be seen above the right side altar. At the feet of James the Elder there is a model of a chapel, presumably the previous building, as well as the scallop shell as the identification mark of the saint.

On the left side altar, a Marian altar, there has been a figure since 1947, which represents the Virgin Mary worshiped in Fátima .

On the northern side wall are the figures of Saints Wendelin , Antonius and Francis .
