Raimund Jehle

Raimund Jehle (born October 14, 1966 in Ravensburg , Baden-Württemberg ) is a German agricultural economist . He works for the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations .

Life

Raimund Jehle was born in Ravensburg and grew up as a farmer's son in Alberskirch, Taldorf . He went to elementary school in the St. Konrad Education Center in Ravensburg and graduated from high school in 1986 at the Humpis School in Ravensburg. After training in agriculture in Ravensburg and Husum , he first studied agricultural science at the University of Bonn . He then went to the USA for a year , where he studied agricultural economics and international politics at Washington State University in Pullman , WA. Back in Germany, he completed his diploma in agricultural sciences at the University of Hohenheim . He did his doctorate in 2000 under Werner Grosskopf at the Institute for Agricultural Policy and Agricultural Market Studies at the University of Hohenheim. During his doctorate, he initially worked as managing director of the Research Center for Rural Areas at the University of Hohenheim and then received a research assignment within the framework of the ACE-PHARE program of the European Union at the Czech Agricultural University in Prague .

In October 1999 he moved to Rome as a political advisor to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) . Part of his first assignments with the FAO were missions in the former Yugoslavia after the war in Kosovo . He supported the establishment of an agricultural administration in Kosovo . In the beginning, this also included supplying farmers and smallholders with seeds and agricultural implements. Since then he has been part of a FAO team that is responsible for rural development in Europe and Central Asia .

In September 2007 he moved to the regional office for Europe and Central Asia in Budapest as a project manager and was responsible for project management for the FAO in the region. At the same time he assumed responsibility for the European Commission on Agriculture , a permanent FAO commission that deals with agricultural issues.

In 2013 he was appointed head of the project management, communication and fundraising department. He also took over the implementation of the regional conferences in Azerbaijan in 2012 and in Romania in 2014. In August 2015 he took on responsibility for coordinating the regional initiatives in the region and in January 2016 he was appointed Deputy Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia. He also acts as the FAO representative for Albania, Armenia, Georgia and the Republic of Moldova.

In August 2016 he was appointed Strategic Program Coordinator for Europe and Central Asia by the Director General of the FAO.

Jehle lives in Budapest with his wife, a German architect, son and daughter.
