history

The history of the church in Holzhaus goes back to the year 800. The Holzhauser Kirchberg was previously a pagan place of worship. The first church in Holzhausen was consecrated on March 14, 818. The chronicler Meichelbeck reports in his story of Freising : At the time of Bishop Hitto (810-834), the priest Inusso, a secular priest , built a church on his court at "Holzhusir prope Wirmseo" (Holzhausen am Würmsee or today Lake Starnberg), which was then consecrated by the bishop. Nothing further is known about the further fate of this first Holzhauser church, which like other churches at the time was built of wood. It was probably destroyed by the Hungarians.

In 1314 Holzhausen was mentioned for the first time as a "bowl" = branch of Münsing, so that again requires a church in Holzhausen. This is also evidenced by the tenacious dispute that Holzhausen had to wage with the pastor there soon after his historical evidenced incorporation into the Münsing parish in order to secure a pastor (around 1400/1419). In 1355 the church in Holzhausen was incorporated into the Augustinian canons of Beuerberg after a barter with the Freising Cathedral Chapter until secularization. There are no documents about the appearance of the Holzhauser church at that time. On a brotherhood note from Holzhausen from the very beginning of its existence, one saw a chapel on the south side of today's church, where the sacristy now stands. In a church bill from 1743 it says: “The tailor Jörgl in his guilt because of 2 active work with his wife when punishing the Totenkirchl and burying the totenbainer 1fl. 20 kr. ”From this one can conclude that when the new church was built in 1470, perhaps a small remnant of the earlier church had remained and was still used as the church of the dead. This old "Totenkirchl" finally had to give way to the sacristy, also built in 1743, on the south side of the church. As a reminder, a large wooden cross was attached to the south side of the church, but it was removed a few years ago, probably during the last exterior renovation.

The current church was built in 1470, but without a vestibule or sacristy. As can be seen from the year 1470, the church is built in the Gothic style, this can be seen in the bell of the tower on the walls, the typical Gothic windows. The Gothic pointed arches can also be seen above the windows of the church.

In addition to the year of construction, 1611 is the most important year for the shape of today's church. This year can be seen on the top right of the choir arch. The church was changed from the original Gothic design to the current baroque form.

In 1743/44, today's sacristy (it was previously housed in the tower below) and the outer house were built on the south side of the church from the demolished debris from the Totenkirchl.
