St. Johannes in front of the Latin Gate (Cologne-Bocklemünd)
St. Johannes in front of the Latin Gate is the Roman Catholic parish church of Bocklemünd , a district of Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia .
history
A church in Bocklemünd has already been mentioned when Archbishop Wichfrid donated the church there to the Cäciliensstift in 941 . In 1836 the old church was to be expanded to accommodate the growth of the parish. Since there was not enough space for a suitable extension, it was decided to build a completely new building at the northern end of the village on a slope that towers above the village.
The new building was built in neo-Gothic forms based on a design by Vincenz Statz between 1851 and 1853 as a single-nave hall church with a choir closed on three sides. The west tower was built in 1875. The old church was demolished in 1855.
