The church

The Protestant village church of St. Johannis is located in the Görbitzhausen district of the city of Arnstadt in the Ilm district in Thuringia . It belongs to the parish Marlishausen in Kirchenkreis Arnstadt-Ilmenau the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

The village church, visible from afar, is located on a hill. Next to her stands a linden tree planted in 1896 on the 350th anniversary of Martin Luther's death .

The Romanesque church is characterized by baroque conversions.

The last wedding ceremony took place in the village church in 1969 . It was then suspended because of dilapidation. A gradual restoration began in 1980 . The west gable, which was in danger of collapsing, was renovated and the roof was renewed from 2000. The church has been usable again since 2004.
