The Church of St. Johannis in Schwanebeck in Saxony-Anhalt is a church building of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

The Johannis Church is the oldest church in Schwanebeck and was built around 1150 in what was then the village of Schwanebeck. The landlord of the village, which existed as Büblingen next to the town of Schwanebeck until 1830 , was the Georgenberg Monastery near Goslar .

The church became Protestant in 1556 with the arrival of the Reformation . The Johanniskirche was the side church in the association of town and village Schwanebeck and served as the main church whenever the Sankt-Petri-Kirche could not be used.

In 1669 the church was rebuilt. The tower was removed and replaced by the roof turret that still exists today. In the course of this renovation, the stones were largely used for retaining walls on the north side of the church. In addition to a three-sided gallery, the church received an apse in the east.

In the course of the last renovation in 1701, Pastor Georg Müller donated the altar, and the south side of the church received larger windows. The west wall of the church is currently tilting and should be supported.

The church has no organ. In the 1880s, a donated harmonium was set up. Regular services do not take place, it is used for funeral services, weddings or baptisms.
