St. Joseph

St. Josef is the Roman Catholic Church in Obernkirchen , Schaumburg district . Together with St. Katharina Auetal, it is one of the branch churches of the parish of St. Marien Bückeburg and belongs to the Weserbergland dean's office in the Hildesheim diocese .

history

Obernkirchen has been a chapel parish of the Fulda diocese since 1855 . Until 1908 Obernkirchen received pastoral care from Bückeburg. In 1908, under architect August Greifzu from Mainz, the magnificent St. Josef Church was built in the neo-Romanesque style on a hill on what is now Rathenaustraße. Obernkirchen became an independent parish at the beginning of the 1950s. St. Josef was elevated to a parish in 1962. At the end of the 1960s a generously furnished parish hall was built. In 1968/69, as a result of the Second Vatican Council, the chancel was completely redesigned (Diocesan chief building officer Josef Fehlig, civil engineer Wolfgang Lorke, artist Claus Kilian). In 1970 the new way of the cross was consecrated, in 1972 the new organ.

On September 1, 2012, the Bückeburg and Hameln-Holzminden deaneries were merged to form the Weserbergland deanery.

Buildings and equipment

The gray sandstone St. Josef Church impresses with its location on a hill in the center of the village. A staircase on the west side leads to the main entrance. The high nave of the church with four bays has a length of 23 m and a width of 9.50 m. The colorful glass windows in the chancel, the cross above the altar and the ambo are eye-catching. On the left side next to the nave there is a figure of Mary (Josef Franke), a figure of St. Anthony of Padua and a figure of St. Josef (Josef Franke). The Way of the Cross can be seen on the right side of the main nave (Josef Franke).

The organ is on the north side of the gallery (Kemper & Sohn from Lübeck).

Three bells are housed in the church tower: an f-bell (consecrated to Our Lady), a g-bell (consecrated to St. Joseph) and a-bell ( consecrated to St. Boniface ).

A rose window is built into the outer wall of the west facade under the gable .

The 38 m high church tower with a helmet roof rises up on the northeast side.
