St. Maria Frieden (Eikamp)
St. Maria Frieden is the Roman Catholic Church in the Eikamp district of the Odenthal community .
Building history
In 1904 an extension to the parish church in Herrenstrunden in the Strundetal was built especially for churchgoers from Eikamp. Due to lack of money, the construction of a church on the Eikamper heights was initially not pursued any further. A church building association was founded in 1961. The 1425 Catholics of the village visited the church in Herrenstrunden at this time .
According to the plans of the architect Erwin Schiffer , a meeting room with special lighting was created. The special feature of the construction lies in the generously placed window areas on all sides. The foundation stone of the light-flooded church was laid on December 17, 1972.
The bell tower was added in 1992.
Since 2011, St. Maria Frieden has formed together with St. Joseph (Heidkamp) , St. Johann Baptist (Herrenstrunden) , St. Severin (Sand) , St. Antonius Abbas (Herkenrath) and St. Maria s. t. Immaculata Conceptionis ( Bärbroich ) the parish of St. Joseph and St. Antonius in the district dean of Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis ( Archdiocese of Cologne ).
Ecumenism
Some of the side rooms of the church have been used since 2011 by the Protestant church “Zum Heilsbrunnen” in Bergisch Gladbach as a prayer room and childcare room.
