The Catholic branch church St. Mariae Himmelfahrt (also Marienkirche) is a listed church building in Ochtrup in the Steinfurt district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

The broad, sparingly windowed clinker building under a flat gable roof was built from 1951 to 1953 under the direction of Dominikus Böhm . The eastern part looks like a transept, the compact north-west tower is connected via the low intermediate wing. The tower was formerly equipped with a crypt . The segment-arched apse , drawn up to the ridge, has no windows. The entrance front is emphasized by a large round window made of black tuff stone . The tower has columnar sound openings. The originally white Rabitz plastered ceiling rested over slender steel pillars; it was replaced by a wooden ceiling in 1965. The tower serves as a baptistery, the gate-like openings were equipped with colored windows by Hubertus Brouwer in 1953. The 1962 windows in the nave are also from Brouwer.

Furnishing

  • The baptismal font comes from the time the church was built.
  • The silver-driven standing crucifix with Mary and John on both sides of the cross is a work from around 1530.
  • The white wooden crucifix was carved in the 17th century.
