The Villa Alstede is a listed courtyard in the Schapdetten farming community Heller in the municipality of Nottuln in the Coesfeld district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

In addition to the manor house, the courtyard also includes a historical weir from the first half of the 16th century and a storage building from around 1890 that is now used for residential purposes. All historically significant buildings are made of Baumberger sandstone . The entire courtyard has been extensively renovated, the measures were completed on the 800th anniversary of the first mention in 2017. Since then, the estate has housed a breakwater educational institution.

history

The estate, located on the upper reaches of the Stever , was Münster's main courtyard of the former Alstede farmers and was first mentioned in 1217 as part of the Aegidiikloster in Münster. The affiliation to the Aegidiikloster remained until the secularization at the beginning of the 19th century. Owners were the lords of Stevening (from 1353), from Droste to Uhlenbrock (from 1583), from Droste to Möllenbeck (from 1603) and their main line Droste to Hülshoff (from 1652). There is no reliable information about the change of ownership to the Schulzen family Bölling. The current owners of the Schulze Hauling family have owned the farm since 1825.

The main house with tower tower was rebuilt in 1877 and was originally built in the 16th century. In 1908, parts of the interior fell victim to the flames in a fire. The hall was then refurbished in Art Nouveau style with outstanding craftsmanship.

Weir store ("Kemenate") from 1536

The two-storey square building made of Baumberger sandstone was probably built around 1500. In the basement there are some loopholes in the walls. The gable protrudes over the roof surface. On the entrance gable side there are loading hatches that were previously equipped with outriggers. The chimney stone at the cellar entrance is marked 15 (36), it is decorated with tracery , an inscription and two humorous hunting scenes. The luxurious living room upstairs is equipped with a sandstone fireplace with drastic console figures. The room also contains a former hanging door and a washing niche.

Originally the granary was surrounded by a moat . With its construction and equipment, it was equally suitable as a storage room, living space and refuge in times of war.

The Wehrpeicher was selected as monument of the month in Westphalia-Lippe in September 1999 .

The storage building erected around 1890 is considered to be the tallest building of its kind in the Münsterland . This is one of the most elaborate and best-preserved inhabited granaries in Westphalia. The wall thickness in the basement is 1.30 meters, in the gable the walls are 65 centimeters thick. After the Second World War, an apartment was furnished for the first time on the first floor. After the restoration, which has since been carried out, the warehouse now has two apartments of 150 and 300 square meters respectively.
