Parish Church of St. Martin

St. Martin is a Roman Catholic church in the Hanoverian district Groß-Buchholz (district Roderbruch ). Since September 1, 2008 it has been a parish church of a parish with four parishes, which includes the Buchholz-Kleefeld district as well as Misburg-Anderten and has around 12,000 members. The parish belongs to the Hannover deanery of the Hildesheim diocese .

The Roderbruch residential area is one of the youngest neighborhoods in Hanover. It was not until 1968 that the planned development of the former break ground began, and a high-rise estate with a strong population fluctuation and a high proportion of migrants was created .

In 1979, according to plans by Wolfgang Lorke (Hildesheim), the St. Martins Church with parish center was built and consecrated on December 22nd of the same year by Auxiliary Bishop Heinrich Pachowiak . The patronage of St. Martin received it with reference to an already existing retirement home of the same name and in view of the special living conditions in the " satellite city ".

St. Martin is a towerless hexagonal central building . The design is largely based on the oldest surviving church in Rome, " Basilica di Santo Stefano Rotondo al Celio ", consecrated around 468 AD. Just like there, the altar island extends far into the church interior and is located on four sides of the hexagonal interior surrounded by benches. The altar stands exactly in the middle of the church, above it a hexagonal candlestick with 120 light bodies enthroned. The tabernacle is incorporated into a cross-shaped stele carved from stone , which shows Christ in the posture of Pantocrator . Motif rich stained glass windows surround the altar area and fill the back wall. The wooden St. Martins group next to the altar is older than the church: the church patron on horseback dividing the coat, including the beggar in the form of Christ.

Due to the symbolic and original approaches, St. Martin represents a slight break from the typical architecture of sacred buildings of the 1970s. The room is fully plastered and provided with color accents, in addition, there is bright illumination through the very large window fronts and the large-scale LED Lighting possible.
