St. Martinus is a Roman Catholic church in Sinthern , a district of Pulheim ( Rhein-Erft-Kreis ) in North Rhine-Westphalia .
history
The core of the church of St. Martinus in Sinthern is a three-aisled Romanesque pillar basilica from the 12th century . According to documentary records, a predecessor building already existed in 1065, which was proven in 1971 during archaeological excavations as a small hall building with a rectangular choir. The church was under the control of Brauweiler Abbey until it was secularized .
During armed conflicts between Archbishop Engelbert II. Of Cologne and Count Wilhelm IV of Jülich , the farmers of Sinthen holed up in the church tower in 1267. This was resigned in the same year. The east wall of the former tower can still be seen in the west gable of today's church. In the 14th century the Gothic choir with a 5/8 end was added. The three naves of the nave were brought under a common towing roof around 1685 .
