Church during the rebuilding of the collapsed north tower in 1869
View of the interior

Between 1862 and 1871 the church was built in its present form. For this purpose, the previous buildings were demolished at this point. The church in its current form was designed by the architect Alexis Langer in a neo-Gothic style. The north tower collapsed during construction. As a result of the disaster, Alexis Langer was withdrawn from the construction work and Carl Johann Lüdecke was entrusted with the completion of the church . The church was the first large Catholic church in Wroclaw to be built since the city was annexed to Prussia and is a symbol of the Catholics' resistance to the Kulturkampf .

During the Battle of Wroclaw at the end of World War II , the church was so badly damaged that it was originally about to be demolished. Thanks to the strong commitment of a priest, the demolition was prevented and the church was rebuilt.
