Carl Johann Lüdecke

Carl Johann Boguslaw Lüdecke , also written Luedecke (born May 28, 1826 in Stettin , † January 21, 1894 in Breslau ) was a German architect .

Lüdecke received his artistic training at the Berlin Bauakademie under Wilhelm Stier and Friedrich August Stüler , was then employed at several buildings in Pyritz (Stettin district), Schulpforte and Pasewalk , in 1836 as a teacher at the arts and construction school in Breslau and in 1856 as a building councilor .

He supported the Association for the Museum of Silesian Antiquities , which was founded in Wroclaw in 1858 , and was elected to its board at the first general assembly (January 12, 1858). In 1876 he belonged to a commission with Alwin Schultz and Hermann Luchs that made purchases for the arts and crafts collection of the Breslau Provincial Museum, mainly in Munich.

In Silesia he carried out numerous smaller and larger buildings, including the New Stock Exchange in Breslau, a richly decorated work of Gothic style, completed in 1867 , as well as the town halls in Striegau and Leobschütz as well as several castles, including Bechau Castle .

He won first prize in the architecture competition for the building of the Düsseldorf artists' association " Malkasten ", in which his younger brother, the painter Albert Bogislav Lüdecke , was also a member. He built the city theater in Breslau, which burned down in 1871, to designs by Carl Ferdinand Langhans . For a time he was the director of the art school in Wroclaw.

Lüdecke was commissioned to complete the work on the St. Michaelis Church in Wroclaw after the architect Alexis Langer, who was originally responsible for building the church, was released from his duties after the collapse of the north tower .

The design estate of Carl Johann Lüdeckes with 1626 hand drawings, prints and photographs is preserved in the Architecture Museum of the Technical University of Berlin .
