Hermann Luchs (born February 27, 1826 in Beuthen , Upper Silesia , † January 13, 1887 in Breslau ) was a German teacher and art historian .

Live and act

Hermann Luchs was born as the son of the district judge Hermann Carl Rudolf Luchs and Dorothea Frederike Hildebrand and studied philology and history at the universities in Breslau , Leipzig and Berlin from 1844 after attending grammar school . In 1848 he was in Halle Dr. phil. PhD . Shortly afterwards he received the vendia docendi in Berlin . In 1849 he began his career in higher education in Breslau. First he completed a probationary year at the Elisabethgymnasium . Then he became an assistant teacher at the Friedrichs Gymnasium and in 1851 at the Maria Magdalena secondary school for girls. In 1852 he became a full teacher there. From 1863 to 1886 he was rector of the secondary school for girls on Ritterplatz.

Luchs was a co-founder of the Association for the Museum of Silesian Antiquities and, until his death, curator of the Museum of Silesian Antiquities, which opened in Wroclaw on August 24, 1859. In 1862 he was able to unite the club collection with the antiquities collection created by Johann Gustav Gottlieb Büsching . In 1879 the museum moved to larger rooms in the new Provincial Museum. Until his death, the inventory grew to 47,000 pieces. Luchs had been a member of the Association for the History and Antiquity of Silesia since 1855 , and a board member since 1859. Since 1861 he was also a member of the Silesian Society for Patriotic Culture , since 1870 he sat on its presidium. In 1873 he became a knight of the Royal House Order of Hohenzollern .

Luchs published his essays in the magazine Schlesiens Vorzeit in Bild und Schrift (the first four volumes of which he edited), in the magazine of the Society for History and Antiquity of Silesia , in the treatises of the historical-philosophical class of the Silesian Society and in the programs of his school .
