The church

The village church of St. Nikolaus is in the Lauterbach community in the Wartburg district in Thuringia .

history

The house of God has stood here in its splendor since 1701 . A small annex that houses the winter church has since been added. It is also used for community events. The Lauterbach people have diligently participated in the restoration of their church and made it possible.

To the church itself

The Marien altar is from the 15th century and indirectly proves that there was a previous church at this time. On the altar is Maria with the baby Jesus displayed on a crescent moon. It is surrounded by four figures of saints and pictures from the life of Mary. The carved altar is probably one of the most beautiful medieval testimonies in the region.
