Michael Lessky

Michael Lessky (born August 16, 1960 in Vienna ) is an Austrian conductor .

Life

Michael Lessky was born as the son of Friedrich Lessky and initially studied piano , organ and church music at the Diocesan Conservatory for Church Music of the Archdiocese of Vienna and jazz theory at the Conservatory of the City of Vienna . In 1986 he began his conductor training with Karl Österreicher at the Vienna University of Music , which he graduated in 1992. Between 1991 and 1995 he was an intern with Claudio Abbado at the Vienna State Opera and with the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra .

He made his debut with the Austro-Hungarian Haydn Philharmonic and the soloists Ildikó Raimondi , Hans Peter Blochwitz and Bernd Weikl in 1995 with the oratorioThe Creation ” by Joseph Haydn at the Wiener Musikverein .

In 1983 he founded the Capella Francescana and in 1997 the Junge Philharmonie Wien . In 1999 and 2000 Lessky was artistic director of the St. Margarethen Opera Festival , where he conducted productions of the Magic Flute and Nabucco . He performed and created CD productions with international soloists at home and abroad, with the focus of his work being on the works of Schubert and the works of Mahler and Bruckner .
