Rimsting, St. Nikolaus, choir and tower

The Church of St. Nikolaus is the Roman Catholic parish church of Rimsting in the Rosenheim district .

Building history

The age and shape of the original church building at this location can no longer be reconstructed, the oldest parts of today's church are the choir and the tower, which appear to be late Gothic in essence. It is widely believed that its construction dates back to the 12th century.

In 1937, what was then the nave was completely demolished and rebuilt.

Furnishing

In the interior of the church there are several woodwork painted in black and gold, including its three altars and the pulpit. The high altar dates from around 1680 and was made for the Augustinian canons of Herrenchiemsee by the carpenter Matthias Piechlinger from Mühln-Wolfsberg. In 1809 Rimsting acquired the high altar, in 1821 the pulpit, both of which the Priener Kistler Anton Kronast adapted to the smaller dimensions of the Rimstingen church. The original image of the Rimstingen high altar, a Saint Nicholas, was also incorporated into the new acquisition.
